Rising Star in DnB: Interview with Kamiko

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with up-and-coming DnB Artist from Thailand, Kamiko, who recently made waves at major events like EDC Thailand and DnB Allstars. From back-to-back sets to diving into production, here's what she had to share.

1. B2B with Sean Fortune at EDC Thailand: What was the experience like? Approach and crowd moments?

I feel like everything went really well. At the beginning, when we first practiced together, I honestly felt like we didn’t quite match because our styles were pretty different. So we started sharing the tracks we both loved and built the concept of this set together. We practiced many times, and eventually it turned into what I’d call an incredible combination; it felt really good and I was extremely happy with it.

The moment I think the crowd reacted the most was when I played John Summit & Sub Focus - Go Back (ft. Julia Church). The energy just skyrocketed. I also remember some fans brought a sign with both of our names on it that day; we were really touched by that.

2. Part of DnB Allstars Thailand lineup: How did it feel? Event highlight?

I was honestly very happy to be part of the lineup. I never expected I’d get the chance to play at such a well-known global DnB event coming straight from the UK to Thailand.

One highlight for me was that there were very few Thai people at the event; I met fewer than ten Thais there. It really made the atmosphere feel like I was playing overseas rather than in Thailand.

3. Starting to produce music: Process and challenges so far?

Producing music is still quite new for me. To be honest, I’m still in the learning phase and putting a lot of effort into it. It’s very challenging because every element that goes into making a track takes time, creativity, and patience. It’s definitely not easy.

Compared to DJing, where once you understand the technical side you can already perform, producing music requires much deeper creative work to complete a song.

4. Playing on 3 decks: Why take the challenge? How it changes your sets?

That’s a great question. Most of the time I only play on 2 decks because whether at home or smaller events, that’s usually what’s available. If I wanted more creativity in my sets, I often had to prepare edits beforehand.

Playing on 3 decks felt like opening a completely new world for me. Even though it’s just one extra deck, it made me think, “This is how DnB is supposed to feel; this is amazing.”

DnB Allstars was actually the event that pushed me to do it, even though I hadn’t really practiced much before. It completely changed how I approach my sets. Instead of relying on edits, playing live like that felt way more fun, transitions became smoother, and now I seriously feel like I should start saving to upgrade my home setup to 4 decks.

5. Most excited about next? Goals and dream gigs in DnB?

What excites me the most right now is producing music. I see it as an important step in evolving from being just a DJ into becoming a true artist, and hopefully taking my career to a global level.

As for dream stages, I’d love to perform at Rampage Open Air, Let It Roll, and Liquicity someday.
